Many people are, and the Island represents the perfect location for families, young couples and those heading into the blissful days of retirement. It is conveniently close to the central belt of Scotland yet detached from mainland Scotland by 14 miles of water of the Firth of Clyde.

A regular ferry service to the mainland with public transport links to central Glasgow and the main towns of Ayrshire make it easy to enjoy the benefits of Island life without losing out on a bit of retail therapy or a trip to the theatre. The excellent health care and educational facilities on the Island make Arran ideal for young families while the presence of seven golf courses is an attraction for those with more time on their hands.

Properties on the Island are advertised for sale through the pages of The Arran Banner, either by local estate agents or as private sales.

Plots of land are available for building, usually with outline or full planning consent, and there are plenty of local building firms or individual tradesmen who can do complete builds or specialised house extensions. Most properties offered for sale are in the main villages on the east side of the Island; Brodick, Lamlash and Whiting Bay, but there are often opportunities to purchase in the less populated villages. New housing developments are currently underway throughout the Island although it is not unusual for an older building to come on the market with potential for renovation.
